History - Camille Dreyfus and his brother Henri first introduced Cellulose acetate, based on chemical experiments they'd performed in a shed in the garden of their father in Basel, Switzerland. Given the interest in a chemical factory of their father, his influence was a factor in their choice of professions. Basel was a middle of the business, and their achievement was the development of indigo dyes. By 1910, they opened a factory in Basel able to produce approximately 3 tons a day and perfected lacquers and movie.

The movie was sold for motion picture movie foundation into Pathe Frres in Paris, and to the industry in Germany and France. A small, but growing number of lacquer has been sold to the plane industry that was expanding to coat the cloth covering fuselage and wings. By 1913, the brothers generated lab samples of filament acetate yarn. The epidemic of the World War I postponed production of the yarn. The warfare demanded expansion of the Basel mill, which declared its trade and provided dope for aircraft to the Allied Governments. In Nov 1914, the British Government invited Dr. Camille Dreyfus to come into England to make acetate dope.

In 1917, this War Department of this U.S. Government invited him to establish a comparable factory in the US. After approximately six weeks, a contract has been negotiated to get a sale of acetate dope to the War Department and a plant site has been sought. Dr. Dreyfus along with his associates started construction of this American company at Cumberland, Maryland at 1918, but this war had ended before the plant might be completed. Nevertheless, construction of this plant continued, this early management team started to assemble, along with this organization in England completed development of this very first commercially successful acetate textile yarn.

In 1921, the British company generated the first commercial cellulose acetate yarn. The very first yarn spun in America was on Christmas Day, 1924, at the Cumberland, Maryland plant. Acetate, however, became a huge success as a fiber to get more, because its thermoplastic quality made this more design absolutely permanent. The same feature also made permanent pleating every commercial fact to get the very first time and gave great style impetus to the whole dress sector. The mixing of silk along with acetate in fabrics has been accomplished at an early stage, along with almost at once cotton has been also blended. Consequently, it became possible to produce cost-effective fabrics by utilizing a fiber which was cheaper than silk or acetate.
